Charity Receives Donation
Small Torbay charity receives big donation
A Babbacombe-based charity which offers free holidays to families living with serious illness and bereavement has received one of its largest ever donations.
Westerleigh Group Ltd, which runs Torbay cemetery and crematorium, presented the Torbay Holiday Helpers Network (THHN) with a cheque for £7553.94. The donation comes from Westerleigh’s metal recycling scheme, in which metal that would otherwise be buried is recycled.
As well as this donation, Westerleigh has pledged to raise further funds for THHN by passing on the proceeds of its 2017 carol concert. The annual event is due to be held this year on 5 December in our chapel at the crematorium.
Luke Tillen, founder and managing director of THHN, said:
“This is our largest donation so far this year, and one of our biggest ever. We are absolutely delighted to be Westerleigh’s chosen charity and to be the recipients of such incredible generosity. It means a lot for a small charity like THHN and will go help fund more memory-making holidays for people who would otherwise be unable to take a break from the challenges they face day to day.”
Sarah McKerrell, manager of Torbay cemetery and crematorium, said: “At Westerleigh we believe it’s important to give something back to the local community. We chose THHN because it really resonated with us that they help so many people who have had to go through so much. As parents ourselves we take for granted booking and going on holidays, so we all felt that the money raised would really be able to make a difference.”
